Shortening URL’s

It’s pretty obvious why you’d need to shorten a URL. You have a long link that you want to send someone, or post to twitter. It’s too long so you shorten it. But who should you be shortening your URL’s with?
I’ve been using bit.ly for a little while now and really like the features it provides. A nice bookmarklet which upong clicking a bookmark in your toolbar, automatically shortens the URL you’re visiting and redirects you to a page the shortened URL is saved and you can post that link to Twitter with any additional comments.
The real bread and butter are the statistics. Bit.ly will let you know if others have shortened the same link, and give you the total traffic sources for all of the redirects, as well as your own. You can see how your link is being spread through the web, where your audience is from and basically use it as your own personal marketing research tool.
